Aw! Did you use lists and list of synonyms where one word would suffice? That's a favourite of mine, eg "capable, and competent and proficient and adept and capable", followed by a nervous laugh. Telephone interviews are hell in interview form.
For phone interviews, I dress the same way as I would to a face the face interview (put on a suit, polish the shoes etc). I find it helps me get "into the mood" which is hard to do when talking to a disembodied voice. Seriously, it works ;)

Hell, it worked for Mr. Tayto. Or was he just a potato in crisp form? Is it the same for all types of potatoes and in all forms? Maybe that could be something you could throw in if the interviewer's getting a little testy; throw them off course like, while you stay cool and regain composure.
